My Dearest Wish...

I have been in love with this man since I was two years old.

(21 years - 2 years) x a big, fat crush on Prince Eric = 19 years with a big, fat crush on Prince Eric.

He is the reason I learned how to work a VCR; my parents got so tired of rewinding the video multiple times a day. He is the reason I love the ocean. He is the reason I am so attracted to dark hair and blue eyes. The only thing missing from the perfection that is Eric is that he never sang in the movie.

And then one day, The Little Mermaid came to Broadway, bringing with her Prince Eric (Sean Palmer), who, in turn, brought with him a most gorgeous singing voice. Knowing that I would never, ever be able to see the play due to impoverishment, I bought the Original Cast Soundtrack. And, oh, how my soul delighted!

A little while after, I fell in love with somebody else (while never falling out of love with Eric). Remember the stupid movie that I adore?

His name is Drew Seeley.

And this summer, in a limited engagement through August 30, he is making his Broadway debut as Prince Eric!!

My heart broke. Two of the most beautiful things in the world have met, combined, and fused into the most gorgeous concoction of music, dance, and poetry, and I am stuck in Utah County.

I want to see this so, so, so badly it hurts. And I can't.

This is the kind of wish that 11:11 should make come true, but never does.

This is the kind of wish that I would fight tooth and nail to fulfill if I had only one day left to live.

This is the kind of wish that would blast all other wishes into oblivion.

This is the kind of wish that will always remain as such.

Just a wish.

Catching Up...

I was in San Diego, CA this past weekend for my family reunion. It was delightful!

Shock of all shocks: I got sunburned.

Now you are probably saying, "Wait a minute, you told us you got sunburned a little while ago." It's true. I did... slightly. But my face did not burn that time. This time, however, my face burned. My visage is HOT PINK. I kid you not. My cheeks are glowing fuschia.

This may not surprise you. It is summer after all. And, indeed, I was at the beach. So I should've put on sunscreen. I didn't think about it. And you probably know that was stupid. But you must understand that I do not burn. I just don't. At my palest in the middle of winter, I'm most likely ten shades more tan than you. I'm not saying this to brag. I'm trying to make you understand the magnitude of my obtaining a sunburn. I haven't truly burned since I was about five years old (when I moved to Venezuela).

So. The moral of the story. Staying inside all day the whole summer, and then going to the beach equals a fuschia face. SPF 40, baby! It's your friend.

When you leave for a week, you must catch up on a lot of shows. Today, I caught up with Craig and So You Think You Can Dance.

I like Craig for lots of reasons: funny, clever, well-read, witty, Scottish, and so creative. I love cheesy stupidity, so when he lip-syncs with/without puppets, well, it's my favorite. This is one of my all-time favorite openings on his show.

And SYTYCD? Well, please, please, please just watch it. I watched Melissa and Ade's contemporary dance tonight, and it brought me to tears. I was sobbing through the last half of it, and bawling right along with all the judges after it ended. Tyce Diorio really outdid himself in the choreography and message. It touched me in a way that no other performance has done this season. Just BEAUTIFUL!!!

The Hot Mess from Loch Ness...

I love Craig Ferguson.
And this is why:

Please enjoy this while I enjoy California for the rest of the week!
PS. Happy Pioneers' Day on the 24th!!

Harry Harry Potter...

I haven't pulled an all-nighter since school got out, but let's talk about July 14-15:

July 14:
  • Woke up at 7:30 am
  • Did stuff all day
  • Took an hour-and-a-half nap at 4:00 pm
  • Arrived at movie theater at 10:30 pm
  • Waited in line
July 15:
  • Watched Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince just after 12:00 am
  • Sat in car trying to get out of parking lot at 2:55 am
  • Finally got out of parking lot at 3:20 am
  • Arrived at friend's house at 3:25
  • Hung out on a trampoline with five boys in sleeping bags
  • Was steamrollered by said five boys
  • Left house at 3:55 am
  • Got to movie theater at 4:00 am
  • Watched Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince at 4:38 am
  • Went to Denny's for breakfast at 7:20 am
  • Went home and took a nap at 9:00 am
  • Went and babysat from 12:00 to 5:00 pm
  • Went home
  • Went to bed at 9:00 pm (and slept until 8:30 am)
Conclusion:
  • I have insane friends
  • Breakfast is yummy
  • I (surprisingly) LOVED the movie!! I haven't laughed that hard in an HP movie ever. I had my complaints (couldn't help it because I am a huge HP book buff), but they were minor. It was REALLY GOOD!!!
So here is my favorite HP-related video (I've loved it ever since it was posted):

Athletically Intuitive...

I am not. Not in any way shape or form. (I stole that phrase from Jeff {read his excellent blog here}. Thanks, man!)

Let me tell you a little bit about me:

Ahem. I stink at sports. All of them. And when I say I stink, I genuinely mean it. Wholeheartedly.

I am the Queen of Uncoordination, Lack of Reflexes, and Clumsiness. Basically, I get hurt whenever I play sporty-ish games.

Hurt? you ask. What do you mean, hurt?

This is what I mean: if there is an object flying through the air that is meant to be hit or caught, then tossed to another person, I am incapable of fulfilling that task.

Why am I incapable? Because I have no reflexes; therefore, I get hurt.

See, the object--meant to be hit or caught, then tossed to another person--if it is flying through the air, it will inevitably find contact with my face. Even if I am NOT EVEN PLAYING!!! I can be fifty feet away from the game and the object will hit my face. No joke. You can ask my roommates--it's a running joke with them ("Cover your face, Chess!"), and they will vouch for my shortcomings in any sports arena.

In sixth grade, it was the volleyball in my glasses in PE. In Young Women's, it was the volleyball or basketball during stake games. Two years ago, it was a football at FHE in the park (I was sitting with my friends far, far away from the game, and suddenly, I was flat on my back, tears pouring out of my stinging eyes, because the football had found me, just me, among 75 other people and sailed right into my nose). This spring, the volleyball from the neighboring court didn't hit me in the face, but it rammed right into my chest knocking the breath out of me. See what I mean? I don't even have to be playing with the people who own the ball.

But here's the most humiliating one of all and it happened mid-April of this year:

I worked as a mentor at the middle school in Logan: I'd tutor for an hour, and then the second hour would be a fun activity of some sort. This particular day, we were taking all the students outside to play tennis. We had rackets and balls, and all the students were excited about going outside after having been cooped up all winter.

We get to the courts behind the school, and all the kids start whacking the tennis balls around, and they're cheering and laughing and having a grand old time. There are some extra rackets, so all the kids are urging and cajoling me to come and play with them. I love them, so I gamely get up and join them, but the second we start playing, I somehow don't see the ball coming, and it whizzes past my face. This close. I can feel the air rush past just millimeters from the skin on the tip of my nose. I drop the racket and grab my face, making sure it's still there.

The kids are deathly silent, and one of my seventh-graders holds up his hand and stops the game. Mason looks at me somberly and gravely shakes his head, "Maybe it's better if you don't play. I think you'll be safer behind the fence, Chessie."

Oh. Em. Gee.

So, I hang my head and trudge back to where the other mentors are sitting. They ask me why I am back so soon, and I have to tell them that a 13-year-old kid banned me from playing tennis because it was for my own good and safety.

Like I said. Humiliating.

Just Dance...

I have lots of reasons to dance:
  • It's the Fourth of July tomorrow! Or today. This is also known as Independence Day. The day our country declared itself as dependence-free of England. It is also the monumental day I became free from all my sins thirteen years ago. (Since eight-year-old nerds commit so many loads of sins.)
  • Ironically enough, the fourth is also the day where I declare myself dependent on Facebook once more. My FB fast ends tomorrow! (I would go longer, but there are pictures whose owners are pleading for me to look at them and I just can't neglect them anymore.)
  • Today I went with Mike and we roasted ourselves alive at the Lindon pool. You didn't think I could turn bright red, did you? Did you?! Well. I can.
  • 1984 is a really good book so far. Incredibly intense and depressing, but very, very good.
  • So You Think You Can Dance is an incredible show. Is it weird that I tear up every time someone gets a great compliment or gets on the Hot Tamale Train? Or that I tear up badly when anyone gets sent home? Despite my weepiness, it makes me want to dance. A dance like... the Cupid Dance! (To Marianne and Kelsey: This is code for, "I accept your proposal! Let's do it!")
  • On MSN, they had this article "Great Moments in TV Dance." So, I've included my favorite of the videos they listed. (See below.) You can watch the one of JT and Beyonce on SNL here.

In honor of the Carlton Dance, I got me Tom Jones's "It's Not Unusual," so I can dance the Carlton any. time. I. want.

That's right.

Be. JEALOUS.

Facebook Fast...

I banned myself from Facebook on Friday.

For a whole week. That's seven days, people. And I've made it five days so far!

I know that might not seem like much, but, considering the fact that I'm basically alone in Happy Valley, I haven't been able to find a job, and my siblings have more of a social life than I do--well, I spend a lot of time stalking people's profiles and browsing through all of their pictures. Like hours. And hours.

I got tired of it. Nay. Sick of it.

Hence the fast. I did it once before. February 2008. My friend bet me I couldn't stay off FB for a whole week. He lost an Einstein's bagel and a Jamba Juice to me.

They were delicious.

So right now, I am blissfully unaware as to what is occurring on my FB feed:
  • I don't know what Disney Princess you are or if you are able to survive a zombie attack.
  • I don't know what your status says.
  • I have no idea whether or not you are in a relationship.
  • I have no idea if I have new friends. And if I do, I don't know if you wrote on my wall. (You probably didn't. Shame on you.)
  • I don't know if you got engaged in the last five days. (You probably did. Congratulations.)
  • Frankly, I don't care.
It's kind of delightful.

I've also been watching So You Think You Can Dance. Oh, that show is brilliant! I love it!

You should try it. (The fast and the show.)

:)

Sheesh...

I changed my blog.

Again.

I got bored with how it looked. Plus it seemed too crowded.

I feel better about this, but you never know.

In three weeks, it may change again.

Because I get bored.....

Easily.
