It's dorky, but I'm enjoying it so far.
I anticipate the acquirement of some cute clothes in the near future. :)
(Also, I met my friend Clark's dad, which is kind of a funny story. But not really.)

We Like it Loud!

Remember how I love country dancing, but I don't listen to country music?

Well, I used to know this line dance six months ago, but I didn't get practice it much, plus I didn't know what to do without Clark to tell me.

And this weekend, for whatever reason, I really, really wanted to do it...but I didn't have a clue how to start.... and THEN, I remembered that Clark learned it on YouTube. Haha. And now, considering the way I learned it from him the first time, I now can do it better. Teehee.

You can learn it too, if you want. It's way dorky, but don't knock it until you try it. Line dances are good cardio workouts, plus they're fun!

(the song is "Loud" by Big & Rich)

Be Prepared for ANYTHING...

when a guy says, "Hey, I have a question for you..."

I'm not kidding. Because questions like this will come up at one point or another in your life:

"So, like, when it's cold and girls get r.t., does it hurt?"

At this point, your jaw will probably drop, and you'll yelp, "What?!? NO!"

"But this guy said..."

Which is where you must quickly interject, "Does it hurt you?" And he'll be pensive and go, "Nooo..."

And you'll say, "Well, there you go." After which you'll shake your head and say in wonder, "Clark, I never expected that particular question..."

"And THAT'S how comfortable I am with you!"

I Should Have a 'Doodad'

just for posts about my friend Clark.

Voicemail from last night: "Yo Chessie, I was wondering if 'texted' is a real word. Call me back!"

He said it only sounds good if you say "I sent a text" or "I text someone yesterday." I said it's fine if you say "text" or "texted" because I'd heard both. We argued. He was annoyed. I was laughing. We hung up.

What do you think?
Is "texted" a real word?

I Would Like You All to Know...

That I was voted
"Best Follower/Dancer in Logan"
among my country-swingin' boys
(who are undeniably the best of the lot up here).

I feel like I won a trophy or something.
Haha. I'm such a nerd.

Larger Than Life...

My friend Clark (background story here and here) and I are both from Orem. If he weren't so extremely good-looking and slightly cocky, I might be in love with him. As it is, we are just really, really good buddies.

Let me tell you how we were brought even closer together. See, it was fall break this weekend, so I hitched a ride home to Orem and back to Logan with Clarkers. Clark likes to talk. I like to talk. There's never a dull moment and always an educational adventure when you spend time with this boy.

Things I learned:
-- A few off-color jokes
-- What guys really consider in relationships (in particular, he likes a girl who has had to work in order to pay for what she wants, and doesn't spend all of it shopping)
-- A tooth implant or something can be really expensive
-- I'm known as "the short girl" at the Fun Park (where we go dancing every week)
-- Clark's and my dancing is "inspiring"
-- Those last two were told to Clark by some goofy guy at the Fun Park, who also told him he was "dreamy"
--It is never not cool to belt along to Savage Garden. Truly, madly, deeply.
-- Most importantly, the Backstreet Boys are totes better than *NSYNC

And how.

See, what happened was the first bars of "As Long As You Love Me" started floating out of the radio, and sharp, excited intakes of breath from Clark and me.

Transcript of conversation over duration of song:

Clark: I LOVE this song!!
Chess: I know!! I haven't heard it in ages!
Clark: (turns up the volume) I'm warning you. I'm singing every word.
Chess: Psh. Whatever, man. I was totally planning on it!
Clark: Ready?

Clark and Chessie proceed to BELT out every. single. word. With frightening accuracy.

Chess: Are we really doing this?
Clark: Oh. This is happening.

During instrumental interval...

Clark: This was the first CD I bought in the seventh grade!
Chess: I know! It's the coolest!

In-depth discussion of BSB members, all by name: Kevin, A.J., Brian, and Nick.

Song resumes, and so does the belting.
Failed attempts to do runs.
Song ends.

Chess: *NSYNC sucked.
Clark: Total crap compared to these guys. Except for "Bye Bye Bye."

Off-key rendition of "Bye Bye Bye."

Chess: Did you ever see the music video?
Clark: Not that one, but I remember that one where they're coming off the plane and all singing in the crowd. Oh yeah.
Chess: We are so cool.
For Your Viewing Pleasure:

Oh yeah.
I want it that way.

The Big 22!!

It's official!

Today is my birthday!
I'm 22 on this 29th day of April.

I therefore declare this to be:
National Chester the Best-er DeLurking Day

That means if you are a follower of this blog,
you should come out of the shadows,
just this once,
and leave me a comment

Tell me the best thing that happened to you
this week
that made you laugh like crazy!

Please? I pulled an all-nighter last night and it's snowing.
You would make my day!
:)

I'll tell you mine:

Hilarious Item 1:

My country dancing class sang happy birthday to me on Tuesday, because we didn't have class today. My instructor (and friend) sidles up, puts his arm around me and pretends to serenade me, while gazing into my eyes. At the same moment, another friend bellows, "SOMEBODY KISS HER!!!!" (Had somebody decided to take him seriously, it would've been really bad, but I laughed hysterically then, and every time since that I've thought about it.)

Hilarious Item 2:

I went to work on Tuesday, and one of my seventh graders had gotten new glasses. I told him that I wore glasses too. He said, "You're not right now. Are you wearing contacts?" I told him, yes, that I usually wore my glasses when I was at my apartment.

He exclaims, "Oh! Do you live alone?!! With a cat?"

Usually, I get mistaken for being too young. Not this time.

PS. Thank you so much for all the early birthday wishes!

Dance-Tastic...

I could happily dance with Clark for the rest of my life.
(Yes, Cameron. I am talking about your roommate.)
Seriously. I am not kidding.
For the rest of my life.
(He is THAT good.)

I'm not great, but it's so nice not to have to teach my partner the basics every time I get asked.

Which, admittedly, is not that often.
I suspect that guys may think I don't know how to dance because I'm Asian.
Understandable.
How often do you look at a Chinese gal (who wears skinny jeans and bright colors) and think,
"Hey, she looks like she's really into country dancing!"
I sure wouldn't.

However, last night taught me that I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better than I used to be. A year ago, I remember that I was terrible and could hardly follow Clark at all. Last night, I was able to do almost everything he threw at me! And Jason is an awesome partner and is so good at teaching lifts. I love lifts.

I don't mean to toot my own horn...

Scratch that.
I do.
I sure do mean to toot my own horn.
I. Am. Awesome.

(an awesome country dancer, I mean)

Update...

This morning after country dancing...

"Hey Clark?!"

"Yeah?"

"Weird question for you: Were you the kid who stopped me in the bookstore at Christmas to ask me about sweats?"

"Huh--Yeah!"

"Really?"

"And they fit!"

"Good!"

"I didn't remember that! That's cool!"

"Well...that was....unusual."

Mutual "See ya!"

Told you he wouldn't remember. Except he did. But not at first. So kind of awkward. But not really.

Haha.

Epiphany...

e-piph-a-ny [i-pif-uh-nee] n. a sudden, intuitive perception of or insight into the reality or essential meaning of something, usually initiated simple, homely, or commonplace occurrence or experience.

I had one of these around 11:30 pm last night.

Remember this?

Well, I was country dancing the night away at the Fun Park--standing mostly--when I saw my country dancing teacher walk by. He is a beautiful, beautiful man. And he will never see this blog, so I'm safe in saying this. But it can never be. He went to Orem High. Boo.

On the first day of class, I remember thinking Hey, he looks familiar and then shrugging it off, content to just ogle him and his God-given physical assets. Not even exaggerating here.

So I'm vain and shallow and superficial.

What?

You are too.

But then when he walked past me, it was like blip, Hot I'm-buying-sweats-for-my-sister-in-law-for-Christmas-please-help-me Man, and then blip, Hot country-swing-dance-instructor-from-Orem-who-went-to-Orem-High-boo Man, and then double-blip, Hot oh-my-gosh-they're-the-same-guy Man.

My mouth dropped open. I was with Katy and I looked at her and shouted, "You remember the guy with the sweats?" And then I pointed to Clark and she knew. We laughed like crazy.

It was pretty much thrilling.

The plan is to go to dancing class on Monday, and confirm it. Watch me be all embarrassed when he doesn't remember at all. Haha.

Special shout-out to Kelli: Thanks so much for taking me out! I really needed that and it was the perfect pick-me-up. You are the absolute best and I love you!  :)

Sweet Sweats....

I was in the campus bookstore with my good friend Katy, when this incredibly good-looking guy comes up and asks us for advice on buying a pair of sweatpants for his sister-in-law. Katy and I both have the sweats so we know how amazingly comfortable they are. Really. They are fantastic! Anyway, so we go around the rack with him, looking at all the different colors, and he asks us what we think of everything: the lettering, the tie at the waist, the colors.

We asked, "Does she like brown?"

He said, "I dunno."

"Well, what do you think of this?"

"I dunno."

I asked him what size she was and he said she was a small, so then I asked him how tall she was, and he looked at me and said she was about my height, so I told him to definitely get a small (even though I have medium--they didn't have smalls when I bought them). So he takes the hanger off the rack, and holds them up to me against my waist. Then he looks me up and down for several seconds and goes "Hmmmm...." Hahahaha! But they were so long they were folded on the ground past my feet. So he holds them up to himself and says, "Look at them! I could wear them!" Katy and I reassured him that they would be fine, and that they were amazing, and everybody should buy a pair. So he smiled and told us to consider them bought, thanked us, and left for the cashier.

Katy and I (in mouthed whispers): "He was SO cute!"

Good day. Despite the fact that I had only had two hours of sleep the night before because I had been writing a paper for most of it. But I got a two-hour nap that afternoon. So lovely. And then I went with Katy and her roommates to the Institute Choir concert. So much like high school cheesiness, except about five times worse. There was just too much random weird dancing in it. I laughed much more than was polite. But before you think it was all bad, it really wasn't. There were some really good songs here and there.

Then I went and played games. I actually tore myself away and went home early. I was so so tired.

And now I am in the library. Wishing I didn't have to write a 5-page paper. Or do a grammar test. Or an online discussion. Or another 8-page paper. Or study for three finals.

*Sigh* Help.

P.S. My roommate Megan is an aunt for the first time. It's so exciting!! I wish I were an aunt. But not really, that would mean scandal for my family. My siblings are way too young for that. That's for sure! No, I guess things are they way they should be!
